I cannot remember everything that I saw this year – I really need to make this list as the year goes by instead of trying to remember after the fact. Anyway, here are some of the things I do remember watching.
Films:
The Joker - I had heard everyone and their mother either in disbelief or telling me I needed to watch it anytime I would mention that I had not yet seen The Joker, so the expectations were high. It did not disappoint: hard to watch at times, but I like films that get into my head and make me reflect. That film definitely did that.
The Big Lebowski - One of my favourites, I come back to it every so often when I need a laugh.
Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia - I am a fan of 70s cinema. I had never heard of this film, but happily sat through the almost 2 hours long storyline.
White Boy Rick - Based on the life of Richard Wershe Jr. I really liked this film.
All In Time - A lovely surprise. I'm not into football, yet it was very entertaining to watch and learn about a subject I had no great interest for previously. Very good film.
Druid Peak - Beautiful film, from cinematography, plot and acting. I ended 2024 with this beauty of a film that I randomly found on YouTube, and it is one of the few gems that can be found on there.
Super Bourrés - I was pleasantly surprised by this little French film, I enjoyed its premise, the relatable look of the actors and the acting as well as the cinematography.
My Own Private Idaho - Beautiful story, cinematography and acting.
Series:
The Gentlemen - The only TV series I watched this year. I binge-watched this during a wintery stay in an Airbnb, and I really enjoyed it. It's unlikely I will see the second season, since I do not have a TV nor Netflix, but I do recommend the first season.
Documentaries:
I mainly watch documentaries, so it would be a very long list to put on here. Here are a few that stood out and moved me:
Carine et Le Camion à Frites - Portrait of a woman in her 60s, beautifully shot by her son.
Une Jeune Fille de 90 ans - Superb
Our Oceans - I am not a fan of the Obama's, but this miniseries, which follows the global ocean current's journey, showcases mesmerising landscapes and incredible shots of nature and its wildlife. I learned quite a lot while watching it.
